Music

Music is an integral part of life at our school from Prep through to the HSC. There is a wide range of opportunities for all students to participate in music ranging from individual lessons, curriculum music, and a variety of bands and ensembles.

Playing a musical instrument is both enjoyable and beneficial. It improves concentration, self-discipline and learning abilities. This is why Covenant provides dedicated music teachers and facilities from Kindergarten through to Year 12.

Junior School Music Program

Year 4 & 5 Band Program

All children in Years 4 and 5 are given the opportunity to learn to play an instrument. Year 4 students are provided with a string instrument for six months and a wind instrument for the following six months of the year to trial and learn on.

As part of this program Covenant provides small group tutorials and instrument hire which are included in the tuition fees. In Year 5, students can choose between continuing to play an instrument in the Band, or they can engage in Music Appreciation.

Students will then have the opportunity to perform at the annual Evening of Music in Term 2.

Band & Ensembles

For passionate musicians in the Junior School, there are more opportunities to build their skills with groups such as:

  • Junior String Ensemble
  • Junior Concert Band
  • Junior School Musical
  • Year 6 Worship Band

Other groups may be formed to provide opportunities for musically adept students.

How to join?

Students may join the String Ensemble or Concert Band at any stage. They can simply come to rehearsal and introduce themselves to the Conductor.

See details below > Bands & Ensembles.

Private Music Tuition

Private music tuition is available for a wide range of instruments. These lessons are provided on school premises by a dedicated group of private tutors. Arrangements and payments for private lessons are made directly with the music tutor.

Bio's for each music tutor are available here

Contact details for each music tutor can be found on the Covie App under Contacts > Music Tutors.

Arranging a private music lesson

If your private music lesson will occur during the school day, you must complete this Private Music Tuition Agreement and have it approved by the teacher of the missed class.

If you have difficulty in finding a tutor or arranging a time, please contact Nicole Conway, Creative Arts Coordinator, via the Office.

Instruments for Hire

Covenant also has a number of larger instruments available for hire. If you would like to hire an instrument please contact Nicole Conway via the Office.
