COVID Updates

What do I do if my child tests positive for COVID-19?

If your child tests positive to COVID-19 after a RAT or PCR test, you need to notify Service NSW (via their app or website) and the school as soon as possible.

To notify the school please send an email to admin@covenant.nsw.edu.au stating the name of your child, their class or year group, and what date the positive test result was received. Please also advise the school of any siblings who will be isolating at home.

Your email will be forwarded to the appropriate members of staff, including your child’s teacher or Year Advisor, Deputy Principal and the School Nurse. You will receive a reply letting you know we have received your email.

Follow the Self-isolation guidelines and self-isolate for 7 day.

When can my child return to school if they have tested positive?

If your child is symptom free after seven days, they can return to school. You do not need to provide the school with a negative test for the child to return.

For the 7 days after isolation, we strongly encourage all returning students to RAT every morning before school, wear masks, maintain strict hygiene practices and maintain physical distancing wherever practical.

Do students need to wear masks?

Masks remain strongly recommended.

Masks are still mandatory when using public transport.

Close contacts attending school

The announcement to ease the isolation requirements for close contacts was made on 20 April 2022. This will enable students and staff who are close contacts and have no symptoms to continue to attend school if they follow guidelines agreed with NSW Health.

Note that staff and students who have had confirmed COVID-19 in the last 12 weeks do not have to comply with the following guidelines if they become a household or close contact and are not required to self-isolate or test unless they develop new COVID-19 symptoms.

Close contacts attending school will need to adhere to the following in addition to the  NSW Health guidelines

  • They must notify the school if they are intending to return under this provision.
  • They should conduct a daily RAT and return a negative result each morning before attending school for 5 school days.
  • Secondary students must wear a mask indoors except when eating or exercising. Junior students are recommended to wear a mask indoors (except when eating or exercising).
  • No student or staff member identified as a close contact will be permitted to participate in overnight excursions, including school camps.
  • Any visitor who is a close contact is required to advise the school that they are a close contact before they come on site. These visitors should conduct a daily RAT and return a negative result before attending. They must also wear a mask indoors at all times.
