It is a blessing to pray together as a school community! Our Prayer Group warmly invites you to join them in prayer every Thursday during term time, from 9.00-9.30am in Cafe Covie.
Each week in the newsletter, our Prayer Group provides a passage of Scripture for us to meditate on and some prayer suggestions for the week ahead. These can all be found here.
We are incredibly thankful for the new staff who have joined us at Covie in 2025. This week we have the pleasure of getting to know Mr Richard Cho just a little bit better.
Mr Cho, what are you teaching this year? Year 8 and 10 Science and Year 11 Chemistry. Last week in my Year 8 Science class, we mixed two dangerous chemicals together to create a piece of nylon that stretched over 17 metres!
Tell us about your family. I’ve been married to my wife Lisa for 25 years and we have 4 children, the oldest who started working at Covie (as a teaching intern) on the same day as me! The second finished high school last year and will be doing the Year 13 gap year. The younger two are in Year 11 and Year 7 this year.
Books or movies? Books
Best place you've ever been? Koh Poda Island, Krabi, Thailand was pretty special.
What is the best part of being part of God's family? Being able to pray for people and have them pray for you.
Tell us how you came to work at Covie? We were missionaries in Thailand for 14 years with OMF; church planting and teaching at a Bible College. We came back to Australia during Covid and I’ve been completing a Master of Teaching while working part-time at OMF. A friend teaching at Covie let me know of the Science teaching position and I’m thankful to be here, doing something that I love.
What cake should we bake for your birthday? It's not really a cake but Korean Bingsu would be great!
A recent encouragement from Scripture? The story of the raising of Jairus’ daughter and the healing of the bleeding woman in Luke 8 encouraged me to trust Jesus with my deepest fears and in his timing.
So much happens every week at Covenant. Below are some things that have happened lately:
Congratulations to White House on winning the Secondary Swimming Carnival.
Congratulations also to our age champions:
12 years - Susanna T and Macsen VG
13 years - Millie F and Luke A
14 years - Emma V and Caleb HB
15 years - Caitlin P and David V
16 years - Maddison M and Elliott B
17 years - Ellie T and Luke G
18 years - Hayley K and Josh S
This week in devotions our Kindy students learnt about the grand temple Solomon built for God to dwell in. In literacy groups they discussed the different houses people can live in and the advantages and disadvantages of each. Some children liked the idea of a houseboat so that they could be close to fish and sharks; others preferred a caravan so they could drive to grandma's house for a sleepover. Children then designed and constructed different houses. Some were grand temples, one was a houseboat with a getaway plane, one was life-sized, and children had a turn sitting in it! While Solomon's temple was pretty grand and lined with gold, the children were pretty pleased with their designs!
Students visited Kimbriki's re-use shop to find materials to use for their current up-cycling project. We can't wait to see what you create!
Year 7 enthusiastically participated in their mystery box activity, using the information in various mystery boxes to hypothesise who each box belonged to. Every student brought in a box, showing an excellent commitment to learning.
They used the evidence in the boxes, along with their knowledge of their classmates, to deduce who each box belonged to. There were a few boxes that could have belonged to several classmates, so the Year 7 historians demonstrated the idea of ‘contestability’ in their discussion.
In October last year, Charlie trialled and was successful in making the NSW U14 State Futsal Team! In early January, he travelled to Melbourne to compete in the 2025 National Futsal Championships where his team won, becoming the National Champions. Congratulations Charlie!
Do you know how nylon is made? Our Year 8 Scientists made a piece of nylon that stretched over 17 metres in length! How? Just ask our students!
We would love you to come and be part of the upcoming events below. You'll have opportunities to meet other parents, as well as members of staff.
Parents are warmly invited to join us each fortnight on a Friday at our Infants and Primary assemblies in the PAS.
A reminder that students who wish to participate must write their name and class on a list found in the Junior School Library (K-6) or the Learning Hub (7-9) by 26 February 2025. For more information, see the article from last week.
Wondering what PIP is? The Parent Involvement Program (PIP) gives our parents the opportunity to enjoy a hands-on role in the education of their children and an opportunity to engage with other members of our community. You can learn more here.
