Mrs Jones, what is your role at Covie?
I job-share with the remarkable Ping Chen in the role of barista at Café Covie and in catering for a myriad of school events.
If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
To be able to take giant steps, like, each step as long as a cricket pitch. Weird, I know, but it’s the stuff of my dreams.
Who knows you better than anyone else? And how would they describe you?Turns out, my family. Here are their five responses (in no particular order):
Overbearing. Quickly followed by self-sacrificial. (Two sides of the same coin, I guess)
A little annoying. Closely followed by self-sacrificial. (Hmm. I’m sensing a theme here)
Warm and caring. (Someone seeking brownie points I suspect)
Loving. (Simple - to the point)
Bubbly. Bright. Passionate. (Yay!)
Where in the Bible do you turn when things are really hard?Oooh – where do I start? Can I give you two answers?
Isaiah 41:10 has held me through quite a few dark times. “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Two commands (do not fear, do not be dismayed) based on five amazing promises for those who believe - I am with you, I am your God, I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you.
Philippians 3:7-9 keeps me coming back to the freedom and joy of the gospel. “But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ - the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith.” Every time I’m tempted to think too highly (or too lowly) of my efforts in life, this reminds me where true worth is found - in knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. And therein lies joy.
Best dessert ever?I’m a gelato girl – vanilla is my go-to, but my three favourites are pamplemousse (ruby red grapefruit) from Berthillon in Paris, pear and rhubarb from Gelato Messina (Surry Hills), and passionfruit from Gondola in Chatswood.
What’s something new you’ve learned recently? How to use a spreadsheet well. I’m a late adopter but it’s made a big difference in all sorts of ways.
What’s one thing that can always make your day better?Good coffee.
What’s one topic you could talk about for hours?Good coffee (how to make it good and all the ways it is possible to make a bad coffee).
How did you come to know Jesus?Short version: My dad taught me with his words, but more importantly, showed me with his life who Jesus is and what a difference knowing him makes.
Long version: come find me in café on a Wednesday or Thursday and I’ll tell you more…
What is your favourite food?I have way too many to choose from, so I did a quick “First five that I thought of…”: Bircher muesli, slow cooked lamb, a perfect granny smith apple, custard, mushroom pizza.
What is the most used emoji on your phone?Orange love heart. I use it a lot. Can say so many things!
