Important information regarding the coronavirus

This letter was emailed to all parents on Tuesday 28 January in regard to the coronavirus. Please see below for a further update from our Principal, Melissa Brown:

I’m writing to provide an update in relation to the coronavirus, further to the email earlier today. As indicated, we have been continuing to monitor for any changes in relation to how schools should best care for their students in this situation.

We have just had advice from the NSW Department of Education that schools should request families who have recently travelled to China, keep their students home. This recommendation affects families who have travelled to mainland China and Hong Kong, and is asking for students to be kept home from school until 14 days have elapsed since their departure from China.

This additional measure arose from comments by the NSW Minister for Health Brad Hazzard and NSW Minister for Education Sarah Mitchell this afternoon. They have provided reassurance that this added measure is not medically necessary and that the risk to children is very low. However, the step has been taken in the interests of student safety.

We recognise the inconvenience that this request would cause some of our families. We hope and pray that such measures turn out to be a cautionary measure only. We would therefore be very grateful for the cooperation of the families this may affect.

Of course, if any student develops flu-like symptoms, they should be kept home until they are fully recovered.

Please feel free to contact the school if you wish to discuss this matter further.

The Department of Health has provided this fact sheet for parents about the coronavirus. It gives guidance about what to do if your child becomes unwell.
