Flexible Learning Guide

A wealth of information for parents and students as we recommence home-based flexible learning.

At Covenant Christian School, it is our desire to provide every student with an opportunity to participate in a wide range of sports and physical activity.

As well as supporting students in exploring, developing and using their God-given gifts and abilities, we hope to nurture a lifelong love of sport, and an appreciation of the benefits it offers.

Covenant has a range of sports facilities to enable students to enjoy physical activity in a safe and supportive environment. From large grassed areas, playing fields and hard courts, to a fully sprung gymnasium floor, children of all ages and stages are well catered for.

Carnivals provide a wonderful opportunity for participation and competition, whilst promoting good sportsmanship and house spirit.

Swimming and Athletics Carnivals are held separately for Junior and Secondary School. The Cross Country Carnival is a combined event for the entire school.

Whenever our students participate in sport, we encourage them to do it all in a way that honours and glorifies God. Physical education is part of the curriculum, and while students develop their skills and build fitness, they also learn valuable lessons about participation, commitment, responsibility and teamwork.

Sporting activities at Covenant aim to help students excel in their chosen sport. These include:

  • AFL, cricket, and tennis Gala days
  • In-school sport - Dance and Gymnastics
  • State-level Gymnastics
  • Inter-school competitions may include: Cricket, Softball, T-ball, Soccer, Netball, Mod League, Rugby League, Basketball and Touch Football.

Sport in Secondary School

Students in Years 7 and 8 can participate in more specialised sports such as:

  • Water safety and survival
  • Indoor Rock Climbing

Years 9, 10 and 11 can choose from a wider range of options including:

For talented athletes, after-school training is available to improve skills or represent the school in Rugby League, Soccer and Basketball.

Sport in Junior School

For our Infants students, the focus in sport is on participation, confidence and fun. Students are encouraged to develop fundamental skills in movement whilst growing in their communication skills with their peers.

As they move into Primary School, students are encouraged to participate in a wider range of sports whilst growing in competence, precision and teamwork.

Carnivals are held for swimming, cross country and athletics. Students can then progress to represent Covenant at higher level competitions (CSSA and CIS). Students may also represent Covenant in a wide variety of individual and team sports.

Higher Level Competition

Covenant is a member of the Christian Schools Sports Association (CSSA), a state-based association that encompasses over 80 schools. Students may have the opportunity to represent Covenant as the CSSA Zone and possibly State level for swimming, cross country and athletic events.

Covenant also regularly enters individuals and teams in CSSA Gala Days and competitions for other sports, including rugby, gymnastics, tennis, soccer, hockey, netball, cricket and triathlon.

Covenant is also a member of Combined Independent Schools (CIS). This organisation allows students to be selected in State and National sporting teams. Students who achieve high placings at a CSSA State Carnival go on to compete at CIS level. Covenant students are also able to trial for select CIS teams directly.
