Performing Arts

Performing Arts are a wonderful gift from God and a way for students to express their faith and creativity. From classical music to modern dance, students learn how to express themselves through creative mediums, and are taught how to glorify God through expression and deeper thinking. These subjects are not just a creative pursuit but form part of an academically rigorous education.

Music is an integral part of life at Covenant. From Prep to the HSC, there are so many ways for our students to get involved. We have dedicated and specialised music teachers and facilities, enabling us to provide a wealth of curricular and co-curricular music opportunities.

Our Junior students have weekly music lessons and from Year 4 learn both a string and woodwind instrument. There are also opportunities to join the Junior Concert Band and Orchestra.

Our Secondary students have the option to pursue their musical talents in curricular classes, as well as join a variety of ensembles and bands.

Private music tuition and instrument hire is also available for interested students.

Dance is available to students from Prep to Year 12 and caters for curricular (Stage 5, Preliminary and HSC) and co-curricular dance (eisteddfod troupes and after-school classes with Covenant Dance Academy).

Dance is taught at Covenant in a culturally engaging, encouraging and Christ-centred atmosphere. We are deliberately counter-cultural in the selection of age appropriate music, choreography and costuming. Students may work towards performing in dance concerts, musicals, assemblies and other school events.

Musicals are part of Covenant’s culture, history and educational offering. Every second year, all students in Kindergarten to Year 6 perform in the Junior School Musical. The alternate year is the Secondary School’s turn with Years 7 to 11 students having the chance to elect to be involved in a wide variety of roles in performance or production. Students learn to work together, express their gifts and bring great joy to their audiences.

Drama is a key aspect of our curricular and co-curricular program at Covenant. The collaborative nature of Drama engages students in a creative process of sharing, developing and expressing emotions and ideas. Our professional and highly experienced staff create a holistic learning atmosphere; a safe and inspiring environment for students to express their creativity and to develop their skills.

Our students have the opportunity to perform in a major production every year, with the Junior School and Secondary School performing on alternate years.

The co-curricular Drama program is offered under the umbrella of the Covenant Dance Academy.
