Melissa Brown reflects on the sobering times we are in and how our world is searching for hope and meaning.

It is very timely, as we approach Easter, to reflect on Christ’s death and what this means to us as a school Community. This week we celebrated Easter at our school assembly. Mr Marriott shared the hope we have in the Gospel. I encourage you to have a chat with your child, to see what they remember about this message. The trade that Jesus took in our place so that we can be washed white as snow.

We pray that over the Easter break you and your family will reflect on the love, the hopefulness and joy of the gospel message.

Praise God for Jesus, who died and rose in accordance with the Scriptures, and is now exalted by God to reign in honour and power.

Prayer suggestions:

• Pray for Year 11s and 12s as they continue their Half Yearly Exams this week. Pray too for those in isolation.
• Give thanks for the blessing of excursions, sporting events, camps and in-person Parent-Teacher interviews happening.
• Pray for meals for Community Freezer, and for these meals to be a blessing to those in times of need.
• Pray for rest in the school holidays and for Covid safety.
• Pray for our community to be thankful at Easter for the blessings that are theirs in Christ. Pray for the message of the Gospel to be heard this Easter, that many more may have new life in Jesus.

Four of our talented HSC Visual Arts students from 2021 are currently representing Covenant as part of the Express Yourself 2022 exhibition at Manly Art Gallery & Museum!

The exhibition celebrates the amazing artworks of young emerging artists from our local creative community. From now until 1 May, you can view the works which have been selected from 20 secondary schools across Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

Praise God for the many and varied gifts he has given each of our students to use for his glory!

Last month, Ethan McErlane (Yr6) competed at the Little Athletics Regionals and won Gold in the 80m U12s Hurdles and broke the Regional Record.

He also came 4th in the 100m and qualified for both events in the State Championships.

His brother Jannik (Yr9) got a bronze for 300m hurdles and also qualified for State. Well done boys!

The March into Maths Sudoku Challenge was very successful. Students and staff completed weekly puzzles, with a sense of friendly competition and encouragement.  Congratulations must go to Aylward House, for winning with a massive total of 1250 points!

All Aylward House participants can visit the Learning Hub to collect a small prize.

For the 23rd year, the Australian Mountain Biking (MTB) Interschools was held at Thredbo from 23-27 March 2022. The biggest number of competitors with over 1000 students from over 220 schools were registered. The three students from Covenant Christian School were:

• Lachlan, Year 7, Division 3 Boys
• Tash, Year 9, Division 2 Girls
• Daniela, Year 12, Division 1 Girls

School-aged students from as far as Tweed Heads and down to Victoria competed in five disciplines: All-Mountain Assault, Flow Motion Cup, Cannonball Downhill, Pump Track Challenge and Cross Country. The championships include four age divisions with competitors from eight years of age through to nineteen years of age.

The event aims to promote participation and evoke interest in competitive mountain biking in the younger generation. There was a great vibe with kids learning new skills, developing friendships and cheering each other on. Not for the faint-hearted, but lots of fun and beautiful sunshine in the Australian alpine.

1. Homework Help

It has been so encouraging to see students in the Learning Hub for Homework Help after school.

Mrs Albances has been working with students to help them refine essays, catch-up on Maths, research topics and unpack their assignments. 

Homework Help (Tuesday - Thursdays) has concluded for the term. We will resume in Week 2 of Term 2 (Tuesday 3 May).

2. Small Group Tutoring

Small Group Tutoring (Monday - Thursdays) has been very well received by our senior students in the lead-up to exams. 

Our tutors have been able to answer students’ questions and provide additional support. 

We will resume Small Group Tutoring in Week 2 of Term 2 (Monday, 2nd May). 

Parents will receive an email with the new schedule in Week 10.

One practical way of serving our school community is by cooking a meal for our Community freezer. These meals are used as an emergency for our school families when life becomes hard.
