Year 6 Graduation

Thank you Mr Rusin for your message to the Year 6 Graduates.

"This is your last official day of Primary schooling! 7 years have gone so fast. It wasn’t that long ago when your parents hugged you on your first day of school.

To those who are leaving Covenant, farewell and thank you for all that you are and have contributed to our school community. To your parents I also say thank you for allowing us to share this journey with you, and for the opportunity to speak into the lives of your children. This may be the last time you will hear your Principal speak so openly about Christ and his claims and demands on your life. Like adults, you need to hear it often, and to be challenged to respond.

To those who continue on at Covenant, I am sure this will not be the last time you will be challenged in this way.

During your time in school you will have had many deep questions that you would like answers for. Some of the answers are straight forward, some are not. Your parents, your church community, your friends, and yes, your teachers will have given you answers to these questions.

Questions such as:

 - Who am I?”
- Where do I fit in?
- What is my purpose in life?

For the final time, I will give you a reminder of the answers to these questions that you would have heard before both at school and for many of you, at home.

Who are you?

All of you are God’s image bearers. This gives you dignity and value. Don’t let others tell you otherwise.

You are and will be prone to sin and tempted often to sin. But if you are one of God’s children, eventhough you will continue to be tempted to sin, and will sin, God has already paid the price for your sin in full – past and present - and future!

Where do I fit in?

If you are a child of God, you fit to His family. You like me, are adopted into this family that is wide and deep and goes back to the beginning of time. You are in a sense, a brother or sister, in Christ, of people like Martin Luther King, William Wilberforce, King David and Paul the apostle.

You are also part of the greater human race, all of whom have also been created in the image of God, deserving of dignity and value.

We all are tempted to ignore this and be hurtful to one another, to try to lord it over the other, to show that you are better, smarter, more popular, or faster than others are. Do not let yourself fall into that sin!

Christians should not only be known by the way in which we love each other, but how we treat our enemies!

What is my purpose?

If you are a child of God, you have a grand purpose.

You are called to enjoy God forever! How good is that!

Whilst we are on this earth, serve Him, because He is the Sovereign King of the Universe.

Serve Jesus, because He, being both fully God and and fully human, loved us enough to come to Earth and to die on a Cross and to rise again in ultimate victory over sin and death – and he invites us; you and me, mum and dad, grandma and grandpa to share in this!

Parents, students and friends, let us remind ourselves constantly of these great truths and let them deeply shape the contours of our lives.

As sons and daughters of the King, following his example who humbled himself, even to death on the cross.

Year 6, wherever you go, go and be God’s people, in God’s place in God’s time".
