NSW Schoolboys Table Tennis Championships

On Monday 27 May Covenant attended the NSW Secondary Schoolboys Challenge Cup at the Sydney Indoor Sports Hall, Olympic Park. Due to a large increase in interest in Table Tennis at Covenant and the addition of six new tables, the desire to compete from many students became obvious. As a result we entered four teams and attended a competition for the first time in the history of the school. The format was made up of a team's challenge that included both singles and doubles matches and was a best of five rubbers contest.

The teams were:
Jeremy Sangtoki and Jedidiah Chan (Jnrs), David Lawson and Alec Berzekian, Hans Sangtoki and Ian Chang, and Marco Morgante and Sam Hong.

Throughout the day there were some great results contested by both the junior and intermediate teams. After the teams were eliminated from the group knockouts all players were then entered into an individual's knockout challenge. Of these results Jeremy Sangtoki reached the quarter finals and incredibly in his first competition ever Jedidiah reached the final to be crowned 2nd place and runner up in what was a fine achievement.

The camaraderie and sportsmanship was on display for all to see and Mr Wakeford was very grateful to see the gifts God has given these students, used in such a pleasing manner. It’s safe to say that Table Tennis is here to stay at Covenant and we look forward to returning next year to compete again.

In addition, if your child is interested in playing Table Tennis, it is an elective sport option for selected terms and provides a great platform with some external coaching and is a great way to get involved with the sport. We are also looking into the possibility of running an after school table tennis club with coaching.
