Flexible Learning Guide

A wealth of information for parents and students as we recommence home-based flexible learning.

Music is an integral part of life at our school from Prep through to the HSC. There are a wide range of opportunities for all students to participate in music ranging from individual lessons, to curriculum music, and corporately singing and giving praise to God in our weekly assemblies.

Playing a musical instrument is both enjoyable and beneficial. It improves concentration, self-discipline and learning abilities. This is why Covenant provides dedicated music teachers and facilities from Kindergarten through to Year 12. Our Junior and Secondary School Music Programs extend music skills and provide a wide range of performance opportunities for students from Year 4 onwards.

Junior Music Program

All children at Covenant in Years 4 and 5 learn to play an instrument. Year 4 students are provided with a string instrument for six months and a wind instrument for the following six months of the year to trial and learn on.

As part of this program Covenant provides small group tutorials and instrument hire which are included in the tuition fees. In Year 5, students can choose between Band (extended lessons) or Non-Band (Music Appreciation) options.

For passionate musicians in the Junior School, there are more opportunities to build their skills with groups such as:

  • Junior String Ensemble
  • Junior Concert Band
  • Junior School Musical
  • Year 6 Worship Band
  • Junior Choir

Other groups are formed to provide opportunities for musically adept students, such as:

  • Junior Brass Ensemble
  • Junior School String Quartet

Band rehearsal times can be viewed here.

Secondary Music Program

In Secondary School, students seek to refine and perfect their expression, creativity and performance. Opportunities such as the Music Tour and leading in the Worship Band develop skills through service to others. Extra-curricular musical opportunities include the Junior and Senior School bands, Orchestra and choirs.

Students in Years 7-12 can participate in the following music options:

  • Senior Concert Band
  • Senior Stage Band
  • Senior Orchestra
  • Senior String Ensemble
  • Assembly Band
  • Senior Vocals
  • Vocal Ensemble
  • Guitar Ensemble
  • Senior School Musical
  • Band/Choir/Strings Music tours
  • Evening of Music

Band rehearsal times can be viewed here.

Private music tuition is available during or after school hours for various instruments. These lessons are provided on school premises by a dedicated group of tutors.
