At the school Association's AGM in May our community warmly welcomed two newly elected members to the Board. Mairwen Chapman and Matthew Chee both bring new insight and expertise which are positive stimuli to the team.
The May AGM moved that we study the Confessions of faith mentioned in the Constitution and list what the creeds have in common. Mairwen has a literary background and is doing some great work on drawing out what these "Three Forms of Unity" have in common. This is a huge task to undertake and one she is tackling with confidence and enthusiasm. As a Christian School with students from 120 different churches we want to always ensure our Christian foundations remain and are understood by our community.
Matthew Chee brings business acumen, essential to the role and function of the Board and theological training and knowledge to share, another essential ingredient in policy and decision making issues at Board level.
Recently the Board had its annual two day retreat at the Oxford Falls Tennis complex. No, this was not a relaxing resort break funded by taxpayers, but an uninterrupted time for the Board members to review the past year’s endeavours, to assess progress, to ask some hard questions and to make some brave decisions .
One of the days included meeting with Senior Staff whose valuable insights and comments are taken on board, so to speak . This year some of the recurring elements were:
* School growth
* Land Acquisition
* Sustainability
* Developing the Total Child
* Ongoing Professional Development for Staff
* Future Developments and
* Educational Trends (e.g.IT)
What was very evident in the two days of review and planning was the overwhelming sense of God’s hand on Covenant. It is He who directs our path. It is He who gives us purpose and it is in Him we humbly continue to put our trust .
