At the beginning of term, Covenant had the privilege of hosting 15, Year 10 students, from Kaimei High School in Japan. Kaimei High School is located in
Osaka City in Japan and it too has just celebrated a significant birthday (although, it wasn’t 40 years as Covenant has celebrated, it was 100 years!)
The Japanese students have spent a total of 9 days in Australia and have stayed with host families, many of whom are from our Covenant community. For
three days students have been learning English in the mornings with the very talented Mrs Yvette Molyneux. The students have loved learning from Mrs
Molyneux and have really enjoyed their time at our school.
Each student was allocated a Covenant buddy and both groups of students really appreciated the opportunity to get know students from a different country
On Tuesday afternoon, the Japanese students went to the beach for sport with the “walking group” and walked from Long Reef to Dee Why Beach. For many of
them, they had not seen a coastline as beautiful as ours and some had never ever been to a beach!
On Thursday, the Japanese students shared their culture with us – teaching our students Origami and then some Japanese songs. Lunch followed and then lots
of sport! Basketball was a real hit and later we played Cricket, which completely confused them at first, but after a little while they were hitting
balls all over the place. Later we played some Tagball (like Netball without the nets) AUS vs JAPAN which was lots of fun!
It was a great three days and lots of fun and we pray that God will use what they have experienced at Covenant and the Bibles they received to further
grow His kingdom.
