At the Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 16 May, Covie parent, Simon Higgins, was voted onto the School Board. Read the interview below to find out more about Covenant's newest Board Member...
"How long have you been involved at Covenant?
I have been involved with Covenant as a parent for over 10 years.
Why did you decide to go on the school Board?
Kari and I are passionate about Covie. It represents a material part of our lives and for this reason I wanted to deepen my involvement in its governance by becoming a Director on the Board. I continue to be impressed by how the school is evolving and developing and I was keen to be more directly involved in decisions regarding its future. Having worked as a Senior Human Resources Executive in the corporate world for over 20 years, I also felt that I had some skills of value to offer in helping to serve the school community through the Board.
What do you see as your role on the school Board?
From a governance perspective, my role as part of the Board is to help ensure that the school delivers well on its purpose of partnering parents in the academic, spiritual and social development of their children. My role, together with every other Board member, is to also ensure that our core vision and beliefs are preserved.
Why should parents consider joining the School Association?
One of the great things about Covie is the way that so many parents get involved through activities like canteen, reading groups, working bees, excursions, class parents etc. Being a member of the School Association offers parents an opportunity to have a say in the running of the School and to also get deeper insights into its vision and mission. A passionate, healthy and diverse School Association has played a critical role in the history of our school and remains a really important part of our future.
Tell us about your family.
I’ve been happily married to lovely Kari for 20 years. Our four kids attend Covenant - Emma (our eldest) is in Year 10, Lachlan is in Year 8, Chloe is in Year 4 and Ethan is in Kindy. Recently we calculated that by the time Ethan finishes Year 12 our association with the school will have extended for 23 years!
What church do you attend?
Our church home for almost 20 years has been RUACH. "
We look forward to the blessing and contribution Simon will make to our school community!
