Covenant has a wonderful garden for Agricultural Science, which produces beautiful herbs, vegetables and eggs from the resident chickens.
Two of the agriculture beds are dedicated to Year 8's Design and Technology (DT): Food Technology class. The students are learning how to grow and cook with various herbs. At the moment they are growing basil, tarragon and chives.
There are 6 other agriculture beds which are being looked after by the Year 10 Agriculture class. Each of these beds is tended to by a group of students
who have studied a particular vegetable. Their goal is to grow and harvest all the vegetables in week 9 to make 'veggie boxes' to sell within our school
We currently have four chickens which are managed by our Year 12 class, with the focus on Agri-Business. As part of this, they care for the chickens, collect the eggs and sell them within the school community. Kitchen scraps from the cooking classes are fed to the chickens as well as going into the composting bins.
The Year 10 Agricultural Science class is studying microclimates, 'bush tucker' food and native Australian plants. As part of this they are growing
a 'bush tucker' garden. The food produced from this will supply some of the native Australian produce for our Year 9 Food Technology Class.
