Why an Onsite Preschool?
Covenant Christian School Sydney seeks to assist parents in the nurture of their children and equip them to live for God’s glory. Having a Christian preschool on our Belrose school site provides a consistency of education and ease of a single drop off for parents.

The preschool class of only 20 students helps students prepare for kindergarten. As the children are familiar with the environment, routines and other staff at Covenant it is a smooth transition.

Who – Children’s ages

CCS Preschool caters for children who are 3 and 4 years old in the two years prior to commencing Kindergarten. Children must be at least 3 years old and fully toilet trained before the start of Term 2 in the year they commence. 4 year old children are given priority for enrolment in preschool.

Who - Staffing
All staff at Covenant are committed Christians. Children are taught and supervised by a qualified and experienced early childhood teacher with the assistance of a fulltime teacher’s aide.

How - Curriculum
The Vision and Mission of Covenant Christian School guides all areas of our curriculum. Our desire to provide a Christ-centred education is reflected throughout all Preschool class activities. Play is an essential part of early childhood learning, therefore it forms the largest part of the daily routine of Preschool. This includes outdoor play, fine motor development, music, stories and games. Children who are ready join in pre-reading and reading activities. Preschool strives to identify the strengths and needs of the individual child, supporting and nurturing them to enable them to develop to their full potential.

Preschool children have opportunities to visit the Library, Kindergarten classes and Infants playground, particularly during Term 4. They also join in school experiences such as Infants assemblies, visiting performers and groups, eg Musica Viva, wildlife displays, book week parade, etc.

It is not our intention to teach the children in Preschool to read and write, however, we will provide an opportunity for the children to further any strengths they may have already displayed outside of school.
The following skills will be developed throughout the year in Transition:

  • Writing their name
  • Holding a pencil correctly
  • Pre-reading and pre–writing skills
  • Encouraging listening and talking skills
  • Developing a sense of routine
  • Enhancing social skills including taking turns, sharing and looking others in the eye
  • Developing book awareness skills
  • Promoting a sense of awareness of letters and numbers
  • Developing a love of God and the world He created

What - Facilities
Preschool is located in a separate fully fenced building and play area in the grounds of Junior School. The play area is shaded and equipped with appropriate play equipment. Preschool children have their own toilet facilities accessed from within the classroom. Preschool children also enjoy a variety of play and educational equipment, suitable for their age, within the classroom.

What - Days and Hours
Preschool operates during the Covenant Christian School terms. Most children attend Preschool on Monday & Tuesday or Wednesday, Thursday & Friday. Alternative days may also be available. The school day commences at 8.45am and finishes at 2.55pm each day. The classroom is supervised by staff from 8.30am each morning and it is expected that all children will be collected by 3.10pm in the afternoon.
