On Tuesday, during first and fourth period, Year 12 English students were privileged to be advised and taught by Mr Nick Harding on the fundamentals of Paper 1 English exam. Mr. Harding, having HSC marked both Sections 1 and 3 of the paper, gave an intensive on each component. In his humourous yet sophisticated presentation, he deconstructed the requirements of the paper. Also, he explained a plethora of approaches that we could utilise in our exam to get the ever distinguished band 6.
As the sound of scribbling pens dominated the hall, diligent students absorbed like sponges his survival techniques for the up- coming exams this year. Comments from students reflected a positive approach towards the seminars. Joshua Clark felt the seminars were “very informative for our English HSC”. Others such as Ada Lee stated that it was a “good insight into the markers’ mind. It was very applicable and straight forward”. “I am now much more confident in approaching the exams” (Blair Mottau).
On the whole it was a fantastic experience that has truly impacted the lives of Year 12 students . We are better able to understand the way in which we should study for and respond to pour upcoming English papers. On behalf of Year 12, three cheers for Mr Harding.
