Dance Academy launches at Covenant

Exciting plans are underway to establish an after hours CCS Dance Academy next year! Dance classes will cater for students all the way through from Transition to Year 12.

The range of dance styles offered at CCS Dance Academy will include Classical Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop, BOYS ONLY Hip Hop,Tap, and Contemporary. Classes will run after school from 3.45-5.45 on Mondays through to Thursday afternoons. Our HSC Dance teacher Katrina Carter will be running the Academy at Covenant. It will be open the local community and a very wide range of ages. Students will be required to wear a CCS Dance Academy uniform. Details will be provided upon request and at enrolment in 2010.

Classical Ballet classes are based on the RAD syllabus, examinations are optional. Ballet training develops strong dance technique, increases flexibility and gives thorough dance conditioning. Ballet encourages sensitivity, artistry and increased musicality in dance performance.

Jazz classes involve a combination of jazz technique and a fun up tempo routines to contemporary and popular music. Jazz is a dynamic and rhythmical style of movement which reflects the trends on popular music, video clips  and mainstream media.

Tap is a rhythm based style of dance. Our classes range from learning basic tapping techniques to learning and performing tap routines in the stylings of Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire to ‘Bootmen’, ‘Tap Dogs’ and contemporary tap styles.

Hip Hop is an urban style of dance that includes influences such as street funk, break dance, popping and  locking. It is often performed to R&B  and hip hop (rap) music and has a strong African-American influence.

Contemporary Dance has Modern and Contemporary influences such as Graham, Release, and Lyrical dance styles. Classes are a combination of dance technique, conditioning and repertoire.

Tiny Tots classes (3-5 yrs):
Tiny Tots Jazz (Transition/Kindy boys and girls)
Baby Ballet (Transition/Kindy boys and girls)

Primary classes (6-7yrs):
Primary Ballet based on R.A.D syllabus  (Year 1/2 boys and girls)
Primary Jazz a combination of Jazz - technique and a street funk style (Year 1/2     boys and girls)
Primary Hip Hop BOYS ONLY class for 6-8 yr olds (Year 1/2/3 for boys only)
Primary Tap (Year 1/2/3 for girls and boys)

Junior classes (8-9yrs):
Junior Ballet based on R.A.D syllabus (Year 3/4 boys and girls)
Junior Jazz a combination of Jazz Technique and a street funk style (Year 3/4     boys and girls)
Junior Hip Hop BOYS ONLY class for 9-12yr olds (Year 4/5/6 for boys only)
Junior Tap class (Year 4/5/6 for girls and boys)

Junior/Intermediate classes (10-12yrs):
Junior/Int Ballet based on R.A.D syllabus (Year 5/6 boys and girls)
Junior/Int Jazz a combination of Jazz Technique and a street funk style (Year 5/6     boys and girls)
Junior/Int Contemporary class (Year 5/6 for girls and boys)

Intermediate classes (12-14 yrs):
Intermediate Ballet based on R.A.D syllabus (Year 7/8 boys and girls)
Intermediate Jazz a combination of Jazz Technique and a street funk style (Year 7/8 boys and girls)
Intermediate Hip Hop class (Year 7/8 boys and girls)

Intermediate Tap class  (Year 7/8 boys and girls)
Intermediate Contemporary class  (Year 7/8 for girls and boys)

High School Senior classes (15-18yrs): *only available upon request
Senior Ballet based on Advanced Foundation R.A.D syllabus for Years 9-12
Senior Jazz a combination of Jazz Technique and a street funk style for Years 9-12
Senior Hip Hop for Years 9-12
Senior Tap for Years 9-12
Senior Contemporary for Years 9-12

CCS Dance Academy Fee Structure
Classes cost $10/hour ($8 for tiny tots)
Payment is by cash or cheques payable to Katrina Carter at the beginning of each School Term.
(10% overall discount is available if all CCS Dance Academy term fees are paid in full in Week 1 of  each term)
(10% discount is available for second child enrolled in CCS Dance Academy)
(20% discount available for three (or more) children enrolled in CCS Dance Academy)
Classes follow the CCS School Term, but do not run on public holidays.
No refunds for missed classes, a makeup class may be taken in another class for the same age group.

2010 Dance Teaching Staff

Katrina Carter - Director & Teacher - (B Design (Hons), B Creative Arts (Dance), Dip Ed)
Miss Carter has been dancing all her life and has trained in a variety of dance styles including Classical Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, Modern and Contemporary . She has taught dance in a variety of dance studio and class settings for over 15 years. Miss Carter is currently teaching F/T at CCS as the HSC Dance Teacher and in the Art and TAS department. Miss Carter is committed to encouraging students to express their faith and creativity through dance and nurtures a Christ centered atmosphere in the dance studio.

Leah Marojevic - Ballet Teacher
Leah has been dancing from the age of three and has completed all of her RAD exams and is about to complete her Sola Seal examination this year. She dances at North Shore Dance Academy studying Classical Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz, as well as teaching Character and Folk. She is looking forward to help developing a love for dance for Covenant students. Leah has recently completed her HSC Dance Course at CCS and has been nominated to perform her Dance works in the ‘Callback’ best of the state showcase in 2010.

Hayley Stockini - Jazz & Tap Teacher
Hayley has been studying dance since she was 5 years old. She attended the Narraweena Physical Culture Club and trained with them for 5 years. She then moved to Plie Groove and Shuffle Dance School training in Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical, Hip Hop, Musical Theatre, Contemporary and Acrobatics. She is looking forward to teaching at the CCS Dance Academy. Hayley has recently completed her HSC Dance Course at CCS.

Christine Amiradaki - Hip Hop Teacher
Christine has been studying dance since a young age. She dances at Synergy Dance Studio specialising in Jazz and Hip Hop Dance styles. She is looking forward to teaching at the CCS Dance Academy, and has recently completed her HSC Dance Course at CCS.
