Junior School Sports Report Term 3 2009Date Posted: 01-Oct-2009 |
What a busy term of sport we have enjoyed in term 3! We participated in the CSSA Girls Soccer Gala Day, the Zone, State and CIS Athletics championships, Metro Cup Soccer and Netball, CIS Rugby League 7’s, CSSA State Gymnastics and our weekly inter-school competition. We have performed well in these events to achieve some great results. Having made it through zone and state levels, at the CIS Athletics Championships, Cooper Bennison made it into the 100m and 200m finals with personal best times, coming 4th in the 100m and Braden King came 3rd in the Turbo Javelin final with a personal best throw. In the Zone Metro Cup, our senior boys Soccer team were beaten in the final by 1 in a penalty shoot-out (heartbreaking, but an excellent effort). Many of these boys backed up a week later in the CIS Rugby League 7’s competition and played extremely well to win the final!!! In the recent CSSA State Gymnastics Competition, Jessica Wye (Year 5) performed really well coming second in the vault and first in the floor, beam and bars to be the overall winner in the 3b category – well done! Each Friday we have had boys Mod League, girls Soccer and mixed AFL teams travelling to Nolans Reserve to play against 5 other schools in our Inter-school competition. Our teams have played very well and really improved during the term. The Junior girls soccer team came 4th, the Senior girls soccer team came 2nd, and the Junior boys Mod League team came 2nd, only losing one game by one try. The Senior mixed AFL and Senior boys Mod League teams remained undefeated throughout the term to win their competitions – an excellent achievement! Well done to all our teams and thank you to our coaches – Mr Groves, Mr Cipollone, Mr Eatough, Mr Trevaskis, Miss Hammond and Mr Monin. These results meant that overall, out of the six schools competing, we came 2nd, which is impressive. Most importantly is the wonderful attitude and sportsmanship our students have consistently shown in these sports and events and their efforts to learn and improve. When referees comment on the good sportsmanship and encouragement shown by Covenant Christian School teams, we know we’re being good ambassadors for Christ in sport – and that is very pleasing!
