Popular children's author and illustrator Bruce Whatley spoke to Junior School students at Covenant today. Mr Whatley explained some of the ways he generates ideas for stories. He read one story that he is hoping to publish next year. This story all began with a sketch he did of a character with a big nose. From just one picture he started drawing more and creating a World of Noses where everyone's nose had a purpose - except the central character. Mr Whatley also shared how his dyslexia meant he didn't learn to read for many years and even now does not enjoy reading. He has gone on to write 50 books. He has illustrated for several of Jackie French's books and shared the story behind "Diary of a Wombat" and then read the stort to the students. Junior School Library monitors also enjoyed a special morning tea with Mr Whatley. Go Back >> |
