Break the Cycle is a challenging 1500km cycling event from Brisbane to Canberra, advocating for the world’s poor. The event speaks out and highlights the Millennium Development Goals which, if met, will halve world poverty by 2015. Break the Cycle also aims to raise funds for vital child focused projects in Southern Africa. It is an unforgettable and inspiring journey! The event is organised by Be A HERO Australia, Eagles Wings and Micah Challenge. For further information on these organisations and the event visit www.breakthecycle.org.au Mr Trevaskis, a teacher from our school is participating in this ride. In support, Year 6 plan to keep a rider pedaling an exercise bike from 8:55 until 2:55 each day in the last week of Term 3. In turn, Mr Trevaskis will keep us up to date on his progress through twitter. ‘Cycle on the spot support crew’ participants will take turns to ride the exercise bike throughout the day and also be expected to take an active role in class discussion. Each session will be set at 10 minutes to allow each child to contribute each day. The Year 6 “Cycle on the spot ‘Break the Cycle’ support crew” is primarily a way to support Mr Trevaskis but also a fundraising opportunity as well as seeking an opportunity to raise awareness of the Millennium Development Goals. All proceeds will help fund ‘Break the Cycle’. We would ask that you use this link to support Mr Trevaskis. www.breakthecycle.org.au where you may give tax deductable donations Here are some updates from Jay Trevaskis on his ride I’m currently half way between Murwillimbah and Casino on Day 3 of the ride. The ride is going well so far, and we’ve received some great donations along the way. Tomorrow will be the hard day – from Casino (about 50m above sea level) to Tenterfield (about 870m above sea level). If we manage to raise $85,000 in donations, then the Year 10-12 building at the Monkey Fountain School in Zambia can be completed. Another update Just stopping over in Casino for tonight. How great is Country hospitality. The Baptist church here has just put on the biggest feed for us - you gotta love it. Tomorrow we head across the great dividing range to Tenterfield. I got the chance to speak to the local primary school today and when we said that all the adults cringed - I think that means it could be difficult! It would be great if you could keep praying for us as we ride each day for safety, strong legs and less tender behinds!! The donations keep coming in and if we get to $85000 it means the Year 10-12 building can be completed (did any of the quotes for our K-1 building come in close to that?). Every bit helps We've got some interesting characters on the ride with us. 3 mothers, a few school students and a 69 year old guy who's intending to do the whole ride. Quite inspiring - it also means no one can use age as an excuse next year! Have a great day and keep checking the blog (www.breakthecycle.org.au) for some updates each day on whats been happening and I try to update my twitter page every hour or so (www.twitter.com/jaytrevaskis) Other Break the Cycle BlogpostsPE Teacher chooses to break the cycle

The kids are really supporting this. All three classes have been on the bike as much as they can.
There have been plenty of interested passer bys and the year 6 children have been able to tell them all about "break the cycle" and direct people to the web site.
We have had some injuries of our own; One toe, two backs of legs and one hand.
Our prayers and thoughts are with those who are riding in earnest through the heat and up and down hills and with those they are supporting - the children of Africa.

Thanks to the grade 6 class for joining us in the journey! I hope your cycling is going well. Maybe in the future you will join us on the road from Brisbane to Canberra!
Mr Trevaskis is going really well up the steep mountain climbs and is doing an amazing job sharing about the suffering of children in Africa in some small country schools along the way. He was doing some really stylish dancing with a tamborine tonight as well. He didn't even seem tired after the huge ride today!
Thanks again for your support of Break the Cycle. You are helping make a difference to children in poverty in Zambia.
Keep pedalling!
God bless,
