Year 3 explore Hyde Park Barracks

I am going to tell you about the day when Year 3 went on a HSIE excursion.  We are going to two museums, the Botanic Gardens and the city.  I can’t’ wait!  We are going there because this term my class is learning about the history of Aboriginals.

So there we were.  Waiting for the bus to come and pick us up.  When the bus arrived 100 butterflies fluttered around and around my tummy.  I was sooo excited!  Going to Hyde Park Barracks, the Rocks, to the city and 2 museums. This HSIE excursion was going to be fantastic!  I stared out of the bus window looking at all the things that were outside as the bus went on.  I knew that this was going to be one of the best days of school ever.  It isn’t everyday you go on an excursion like this one!  “This is so cool” I thought, as the bus stopped.  First we looked at old buildings made by the convicts.  We also saw some statues on the way.

Afterwards we went to the Discovery Museum and saw lots of things made by the Aboriginals, like a canoe.  We had recess in a shady spot.  As we walked to the Botanic Gardens we saw some Aboriginal people playing the didgeridoo.  We had lunch in the Botanic Gardens and I watched as people played on the soft green grass.  At the Hyde Park Barracks we got a tour around the museum, learnt what life was like for the convicts, and got to lie down in hammocks, to feel what it was like for the convicts sleeping in hammocks.  Also our tour guide, Jenny, gave us each a convict picture to colour in as a souvenir.

Drip, drip, drip, drop.  Rain came down in little droplets.  We all put on our raincoats, and piled onto the bus.  We all got back to school.  It was home time. What a great day year 3, parents and teachers had!  Our excursion had been fantastic!

I remember going on that same excursion myself... It was so much fun... I don't want to leave school!!

I also remember that excursion and i'm in high school.
