School fence installed along Forest Way

This week a fence is being installed along the inside of the berm along Forest Way. It is intended this will reduce the number of balls going near the road and improve safety for our students. The remainder of the berm is to be landscaped in the coming weeks as part of the ongoing beautification of the school's grounds. The style of fence was chosen to be less "fortress" like than many appearing around schools. For now the fence will remain open at either end as it's primary purpose is safety for students not security.


The fence, like most around the school, is being installed by a former student. Ron Vos was one of the original 18 students when Covenant Christian School started in May 1978. He has maintained a long relationship with the school. Ron explains as an 11 year old school felt more like a camp. There was no uniform and lessons made the most of whatever was happening. When a diamond python was accidentally killed when weeds were being cleared on the property it was decided to dissect it as an experiment.

Ron remembers the noise created by the construction of the adjoining Wakehurst oval as truck after truck brought in rubble. The concrete blocks sliding down the metal trays of the trucks disrupted many a lesson. Probably the current noise of our new Building A Infants construction taking place is much quieter in comparison.

He has seen the school and the grounds transformed from a single cottage, bushland, weeds and a creek with dam. Ron remembers the founders dreaming that in 20 years there would be five buildings on the site. Now 31 years later there is is over twice that many and over 800 students. As a school we have much to be grateful for with the vision, passion and plain hard work our pioneers faced.

Theres a way to go in........ It's "SO" going to stop people from getting in but it looks cool anyways
