Valentines flowers raise money for bushfire victims

Friday, February 13, 2009
Two days back from Christmas Holidays and Student Council got together and decided that a great fundraiser for the school would be to sell flowers on Valentine's Day. That all sounded great except that Valentine's Day was only 9 days away.

We began by pricing flowers and formulating a plan to get 150 - 200 flowers out during home class on Friday 13th (perhaps not the best date for flower giving - but that wasn't going to stop us). So word got out and the money and messages started rolling in. It soon took off and next thing we knew, it was Thursday afternoon (the day before) and we needed to write up 150 messages. Friday morning was hectic. There was a lot of ribbon, a lot of messages, a lot flowers and lot of love in the air. We organised each message to be attached to a flower and placed them in home class groups.

At last, the bell rang and out the student council went armed with a multitude of flowers. It was a great day. We raised around $500 which we decided would go toward supporting victims of the bushfires. Thanks to everyone who supported, especially Mrs. O'Sullivan who decide to buy every flower we had left over.
