On Thursday 12th March Year 10 Design and Technology had the opportunity to participate in a workshop where Mrs Dickson came and showed us several innovative ways to decorate fabrics. The purpose of the workshop was to give us more of an idea of how we could create different effects for our interior design project in term 2.
Everyone was amazed at Mrs Dickson’s artwork and creativity. By the time our workshop was over, I could not wait to start working out how I could incorporate these new techniques into my interior design assessment next term.
On behalf of Covenant we would like to say thankyou to Mrs Dickson for coming and teaching us new ideas to help us with our assessment task next term. It was a great privilege.
This year's HSC Major Works for Design & Technology were showcased on Thursday 4th September. Fusion evening is always a wonderful opportunity to see a side of the students that very few of us ever see. Through their artwork and design, many of the issues that students are dealing with, the thoughts that they have for improving their world and just their practical ideas for making life more enjoyable come to the fore. This year’s fusion evening was certainly no exception with many outstanding projects on display.
Amongst the display was an innovative single lounge chair that easily converts to a bed designed by Marleta Fong; an “eco-friendly” magazine developed by Rochelle Layland and some beautiful pastel drawings in the Pre-Raphaelite style titled “The Beloved, Family Symbols” by Emily Fraser.
It’s a delight to see the way that God has given us such a diverse range of gifts, and even more pleasing is to see the way this comes to light through the students work. The evening is always complimented by an abundance of delicious food provided by the hospitality team. Jazz also punctuates the air as Mrs Rachel Collis provides great entertainment through piano and voice.
I hope you enjoy a snapshot of some of the students work.
The Year 11 D&T had a workshop on fabric design. A lady from S&S Wholesalers came to show us the latest innovative techniques that can be used on different materials, such as paint crayons and drawing on fabric. Most of the resources that she showed us were new to us and this gave us new ideas for our Major Design Projects. We were able to experiment with them and create new designs.
The workshop was a huge success, and helped us to express new ideas in an innovative way.
Here are some of our designs.
